ABOUT
In 2005, John Rooney graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance and Operations Management from the prestigious Isenberg School of Management at the University of Massachusetts – Amherst. After a few productive years in the financial field, John decided to make the major career change from finance and turn his focus towards education. Hoping to find more fulfilment, he immediately enrolled in graduate level education courses at Fitchburg State University while working as a full-time mathematics substitute teacher. After that school year, John received the best compliment he could have imagined by being hired to join the staff full-time starting in 2008-2009.

During the first few years of his career, John continued developing his teaching skills, coaching high school soccer and college baseball, building a home, as well as continuing his graduate school work. While challenging, balancing all of these responsibilities effectively and efficiently paid off. John had found his life’s calling; helping students achieve their goals, in and out of the classroom. In 2013, Fitchburg State University awarded John his Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Teaching. It was the first graduate degree in his family since his paternal grandmother earned her’s 46 years prior.
John was raised in a family of educators. After teaching at a small business college and working at the local newspaper, his grandmother enjoyed an 18-year career teaching English at the high school level. Her strict, but caring instruction earned her the nickname ‘Ma’ Rooney by her beloved students. John’s older brother Charles teaches Mathematics at the high school level as well. His younger brother, Thomas, chose English at a vocational high school as the focus for his educational instruction. Further extending the Rooney educational tree, Tom married the love of his life Nicole, who just so happens to teach middle school math and social studies. As crazy as this all seems, they do find things to talk about outside of education, but their shared passion for helping kids runs deep.

In his free time, John enjoys being active, playing with his dog Lucy, spending quality time with his niece Raegan, golfing, enjoying the sun and sand of south Florida, and all things Boston sports. He decided to start Wicked Math Tutoring as a way to connect his mathematical expertise to the students of Palm Beach County. It is his hope that each student he tutors is able to achieve a level of confidence, success, and personal satisfaction that they would have otherwise thought impossible.
